Alicante Culture has improved the image of La Seashell from the Esplanade, one of the actions included in the 2nd Plan of Rehabilitation, Restoration and Illumination of Monuments of Alicante. This symbol of the city, built in the 60 has gained visibility and aesthetics it has been also updated without losing the essence. The work included painting, recovering the previous ivory color that appears in old photos, plus lowered the central podium and removed the shield from the front, which would be moved to the back of the auditorium. With the performance conducted it has been preserved to the original as much as it could be, as indicated by the municipal restorer Luisa Biosca, the supervisor of work.
The project will be completed by the sanitation of the latticework on the lower part. Moreover, in the front side the name "Auditorium of The Seashell" will be carved.
The Deputy Mayor for Culture of the City of Alicante, Miguel Valor, said that with this restoration "The Seashell has regained its splendor adapting, while a more current era in which each year hosts more cultural and leisure activity”. Last Friday, the Esplanade was filled with the sound of the Beatles fans, which enjoyed the performance of The Liverpool Band. During the summer it will host multiple schedules as Dance Classes on Mondays, one of the novelties of the summer, with the support of the Department of Social Action and Social Work of Caja Mediterráneo.
For a young audience the third Alacant Rock Festival will be held on Fridays, with the collaboration of the Department of Youth, Cajamurcia, the association Alacant Rock, the newspaper: INFORMATION and Cadena 100. The Seashell also host the International Folk Festival, on Saturdays, with Cajamurcia Foundation and the newspaper "La verdad". Also, on Thursdays and Sundays, Alicante Culture reorders with Caja Mediterráneo's Summer Concert with bands.
