The jury of the XII edition of the awards Fopa decided yesterday, after three hours of deliberation, award the prize to the best public works in 2010 at the new terminal at El Altet airport. A work that has cost 629 million EUR, which gives the province one of the most modern airports in the EU, with the capacity to move up to 20 million passengers a year.
The terminal, which opened last Wednesday, has become an architectural landmark for the province. Designed by the American architect Bruce Fairbanks, the building maximizes space and natural light energy saving to face. Stand out the 40 domes of 36 for 36 meter wingspan and and the height of the departures plant, which reaches 22 meters. The jury members emphasized both its architectural wealth and high functionality.The terminal was designed by the public entity Airports and Air Navigation (Aena) and built by Acciona-Ecisa Elecnor-ute.With an area of 333,500 m2 is composed of a boarding dock parallel to the runway and a processing building perpendicular to the enlargement of El Altet is a complete modernization of airport infrastructure to the benefit of the social and economic development of the Alicante and throughout its area of influence, according to the jury Fopa.
In the second place, was the TRAM Station of Luceros, promoted by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and by the FCC and civic construction. The jury noted that the technical complexity becomes a major engineering and exquisite care of aesthetics and functionality with respect to communications in city of Alicante and its surrounding area.
Thirdly the jury chose the Municipal Rehabilitation Units in Alicante for cultural use, "Las Cigarreras", sponsored by the city of Alicante and construction by the OHL. Technicians highlighted the "extraordinary implementation of rehabilitation and cultural use to which the buildings have been designed."
Finally, there was a special mention to recognize environmental improvement integration of the south facade of the Port of Alicante with the construction of the public park "Parque del Mar", executed by the Vivemos Ferpas Ecisa-ute. The jury noted that this is a set of actions aimed at improving the south facade of the port of Alicante which forms a scenic contribution to the port-city integration. In total, this year had been submitted 27 projects across the province.
