The Rotonda, is a development that was promoted by Enrique Penedo (same owner of The Park which was built on the grounds of the factory gas) and the building was completed in 1967. Designed by Don Juan Guardiola Gaya, La Rotonda sits on a polygonal of curved sides block from the avenues of Costa Blanca, Catalonia, Naples and Sicily Street. It consists of a total of 122 luxury apartments spread over 4 blocks: two townhouses sites north and south of the plot, a 6 adjoining heights with ave Costa Blanca and the Tower.
The tower is the most significant element of this set is square with 18 towering heights over a podium used as a garage and is situated in the angle between the Avdas of Catalonia and Naples. High metal structure, the shape of the broad sill’s overhangs, shaped pointed, it has to be known popularly as "La Pagoda", having been for many years a visual landmark for its very important and unique position in the angle from the beach and the old highway a-190 from Alicante to El Campello.
But as for everyone, also for buildings over time and If they also have metal frame and are by the sea, corrosion is one of its worst enemies and wreak havoc on the safety thereof. At present, the facade of the tower is being rehabilitated. It is not the first time works are been taken on the components of the outside of La Rotonda, the coverings tile of all the blocks had previously been removed and in the case of the tower, the pergola was also removed, as seen in the photo of in its origins, it was roofed. Currently, only the structure is preserved.
The metallic stars had also been stripped (except in some very specific parts) that number 16 per plant by way of false floor, joined the terraces of all apartments aesthetic appeal that the author of the building also used in the Alfonso el Sabio building 40 and the Paris tower, although the latter were not stars, but simple metal profiles.
On this occasion, deep rehabilitation is undergoing on the building it is such rehabilitation that we can even talk of rebuilding, as they are replacing lots of metal profiles whose oxidation was obvious, and even parts of the floor of the cantilevers. Regarding the "wings" are being dismantled and hopefully also will be replaced exactly as they were before. Of course, Failure to do so, it would violate the cataloging that has been awarded by the City Council and the building would lose its personality.
