Time it also passes for buildings, and if they are near the sea and have a metal frame, corrosion and deterioration of all kinds in materials ravages safety and aesthetics. The techno-surface DuPont ™ Corian ® Glacier White color has been chosen for its strength and durability characteristics for the thorough restoration of the facade of the building's tower, 18-story building located in the residential area "La Rotonda" on the beach of San Juan, Alicante. The building was built over 40 years ago, and now was facing fears of landslides due corrosion.
Miguel Salvador Landmann as Architect together with the study collaborator K10: Architecture and Projects, they have been responsible for the rehabilitation of this work, the challenge was to respect the personality of the original building, as La Torre is included in the Catalogue of Goods and Protected of the General Plan of Alicante. Thus sill’s terraces, also called "wings" have become the center of the repair project, and DuPont Corian in the right material to embellish the facade, because it meets the technical and aesthetic requirements of the design the project.
According to the architect, they were seduced by this material for its constructive advantages during the development of the work, which helps the process, are reduced to simple assembly steps, and ease of repair material after the damage suffered during transportation or hauling result. Also, "the properties of DuPont Corian meet the technical and aesthetic requirements to make the 'wings', emphasizing the smooth, seamless joints after binding of different pieces, with a length of up to eight meters," says Landmann.
Furthermore, these large pieces should allow mounting with concealed fittings that might be recordable from inside homes, to facilitate subsequent maintenance and control of the metal structure sustaining. The flexibility of use and mechanical properties of DuPont Corian made it the ideal material for this renovation project. Its durability and easy maintenance procedures ensure outstanding performance outdoors in an environment of high salinity, while its inherent flexibility allows absorb and transmit wind pushes on the facade.
